Beginning in 2003, PFLAG Tucson began a scholarship program for LGBT graduating seniors, undergraduates, and graduate students. We have gone from awarding two $500 scholarships in 2003 to six $1000 scholarships in 2007, one of the most successful programs we have initiated. Each year we are impressed with the qualifications, motivation, and background of our applicants, and it is difficult to choose our winners. We regret that not everyone can be acknowledged and rewarded in some way.
Beginning in 2004, the Men's Social Network (MSN) of Tucson established a $1000 scholarship in the name of Jerry Curl, its founder and president, who recently passed away. MSN has joined with us to honor a gay man each year with this award.
Below are photos from the 2005 scholarship reception held at the home of our president, Donna Rochester. You may see some familiar faces in the crowd.
