Each year PFLAG Tucson participates in
several community events, and this is a record of some of the things
that we do.
PFLAG SCHOLARSHIP RECEPTIONS
In 2003, PFLAG Tucson initiated a
scholarship program for LGBT high school seniors, undergraduates, and
graduate students. This has become one of our most successful
programs. For reception photos, follow
this link.

PRIDE IN THE DESERT
Every October the LGBT community of
southern Arizona sponsors its annual gay pride event. Moved to
October because of Tucson's torrid summer heat, this event draws
thousands of LGBT members to a day of exchanging ideas and information
and enjoying entertainment. Nancy (left), Scott (center), Donna
(right), and Chuck (sitting) help staff the PFLAG booth, a popular
stop for attenders.

THANKSGIVING
This year PFLAG Tucson helped prepare a
Thanksgiving meal at Eon, Tucson's center for LGBT youth, to
ensure that every young person had a welcoming place to go for
Thanksgiving. Elaine and Art (at the right) of PFLAG ready to
enjoy the meal with Mark English of Wingspan and a Wingspan
volunteer.

FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS
Each year at Christmas, PFLAG Tucson
decorates a tree in the annual Festival of Lights held at Reid Park. As an annual tradition, various organizations
decorate trees for public viewing, and visitors readily take the
information we placed with our tree. We hope this helps make
others aware of who we are and leads them to support if they need it.

GAY WEST
In June of each year, Gay West is held at
Old Tucson west of Tucson. After a hiatus of two years, the
event was reinitiated in 2007, with proceeds going to Wingspan,
Tucson's LGBT community center. Set in
a "wild west" movie studio, Gay West has been one of the most
successful annual LGBT get-togethers in the Southwest. All LGBT
community organizations are invited to provide information about
themselves. In a photo from an earlier gathering, Susan (left, sitting), Nancy (standing),
and Donna (sitting) staffed our table, selling
cookies and passing out PFLAG booklets and brochures. Although
the event is held at the hottest time of year, those who attend enjoy the entertainment, rides, food, and dancing.
